Master the Standard American Accent – One-Day Intensive with Adam Henderson

Hollywood North runs on the American accent.
Roughly 85% of Vancouver’s film and television work services U.S. productions—and casting directors EXPECT the Standard American accent across auditions, callbacks, and set work. American producers are highly attuned to Canadianisms like “aboot,” “sore-y,” and classic upspeak.
If you want to work in this market, you need to sound American!

What You’ll Get:
  • A full-day, in-studio workshop with acclaimed dialect coach Adam Henderson
  • Personal assessment of your natural speech habits
  • Training to adjust vocal posture, shift voice placement, and retrain facial muscle memory
  • Targeted accent work for script memorization, audition prep, and character building
  • Techniques to remove self-consciousness and gain freedom in performance

This one-day intensive workshop will give you the tools to deliver authentic, industry-standard American speech — and book the roles!

Adam Henderson

Born and raised in New York City, Adam is a seasoned dialect coach, actor, and educator with a uniquely global perspective. He teaches dialects and voice acting to the graduating actors at UBC as an adjunct professor, and for the past 13 years, he has been the principal dialects teacher and a senior acting instructor at the Vancouver Film School (VFS).

Adam designed the dialect curriculum at both VFS and UBC, and has also led masterclasses at London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and LAMDA.

Trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England, Adam honed his technique while recording BBC Radio dramas opposite many of Britain’s top actors. He worked in London for 25 years, including major roles in the West End, The National Theatre, and throughout Europe — from Germany and Austria to Holland and France. He acted in films across France, Denmark, Germany, Israel, and Africa, and speaks French, German, some Spanish, and a little Arabic.

With triple nationality (US/UK/CA), and life experience across 41 U.S. states, Europe, Africa, and the West Indies, Adam brings an unparalleled depth to accent work — rooted in real-world linguistic and cultural fluency.

On set, Adam has coached high-profile actors like Dolph Lundgren and Stephen Amell and worked on productions including:

  • Arrow (CW)

  • Nancy Drew (CW)

  • Altered Carbon (Netflix)

  • Turner & Hooch (Disney+)

  • Harry & Meghan (Lifetime)

  • The Magicians (CW)

  • Shōgun (Disney+)

  • Tomorrowland (Walt Disney Studios)

His method is fun, physical, and actor-centered—perfect for building a flexible, bookable voice for the American market.
