Advanced Meisner – Level 3

“Don’t be an actor. Be a human being who works off what exists under imaginary circumstances.” –Sanford Meisner

In this class students will learn how to apply the Meisner technique to on camera scenes from film and television. Each week students will be assigned a new scene encouraging them to explore the authenticity of their own behaviour and the freedom and specificity that comes from broadening their application of Meisner’s emotional preparation to the text. This class will further enhance the actor’s ability to use their imagination to build the world of the imaginary circumstances of the scene, digging deeper into Sanford Meisner’s philosophy that acting is “living truthfully under the imaginary circumstances”. In class we will incorporate the Word repetition, one of Meisner’s fundamental exercises, into the on camera work to deepen the student’s connection to their impulses and hone their ability to focus on the other actor, moment to unanticipated moment. This class will challenge each student to take their work to the next level and to fully immerse themselves in the world of the text while learning how to work on camera with nuance and specificity.
